Abstract
Purpose: This study was to figure out the effects of an abdominal massage on nurses who were suffering from
dysmenorrhea and menstrual pain, after checking the level of dysmenorrhea and menstrual pain of a group of nurses in a hospital located in Seoul.

Method: This study has adapted Moos Menstrual Distress Questionnaire and Visual Analogue Scale for a comparative analysis on the level of the nurses¡¯ dysmenorrhea and menstrual pain before and after applying an abdominal massage.

Result: The level of the nurses¡¯ dysmenorrhea and menstrual pain has been significantly decreased after applying an abdominal massage using an aroma oil and ordinary oil. However, there was no significant difference of a menstrual pain(p=.562) and a dysmenorrhea(p=.151) between the experimental group receiving an abdominal massage using aroma oil and the control group receiving an abdominal massage using ordinary oil.

Conclusion: It has been found that both the abdominal massage using an ordinary oil and an aroma oil can be considered as an effective nursing intervention for relieving a dysmenorrhea and a menstrual pain and will be become an
independent intervention.
